Hi, I’m Annie Adamson.
I’m a healer at heart and educator by design.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been insatiably curious about movement. As a struggling teen mom, movement was the medicine that helped me navigate my life’s traumas and find equanimity, resilience and healing.
At the age of 24, I opened a yoga studio in Portland, Oregon with my husband Todd. I wanted to share the transformative power of intentional movement with my community. I undertook a journey to learn everything I could about the body – including why pain shows up and what can be done to remedy it.
Since then, I’ve studied injury rehabilitation and yoga therapeutics with world-renowned teachers…
Led thousands of public classes and workshops…
And helped hundreds of private clients use the tools of yoga, mindfulness, functional movement and natural medicine to awaken to greater health, healing and self-empowerment.
Today, I’m proud to have created a method that helps countless people find greater freedom in their bodies.
Movement has the power to transform our lives and wellbeing. In fact, science has proven that there’s no faster way to upgrade your health than movement.
But with so many systems out there, it can be challenging to find a method that’s fun, dynamic, and truly sustainable…
Primal Vinyasa is a method of re-patterning movement uniquely designed to inspire you to attend to the beautiful wisdom of your own body.
By combining the magic of yoga with functional movement, Primal Vinyasa offers a methodology applicable to daily life.
Focused on practical applications rather than aesthetic goals, Primal Vinyasa is meant to empower you to move and live better – both on and off the mat.
Our bodies are born to move, but in our modern world too much repetition often leads to stagnation, injury and pain.
This is your call to break free from habitual movement patterns and rediscover your body’s natural wisdom.
Primal Vinyasa isn’t your traditional yoga practice…
It’s intelligent, functional strength and mobility training that will teach you the skills for more advanced poses, while empowering you to reclaim your body’s innate capacity for easeful, balanced and powerful movement…
So you can finally take your movement practice off the mat – and into your life.
“Annie’s knowledge of functional movement and biomechanics propelled me to a higher level of healing post-total hip replacement. – 1 year after joint replacement, I had tissue patterns in my hip and leg that were still stuck. Where physical therapy failed, this work provided stretching and strengthening that eliminated my femoral nerve impingement… Thank you Primal Vinyasa for taking care of my physical wellbeing.”

“Primal Vinyasa has been a way for me to come back to movement in an inquisitive and playful way. I love that Primal Vinyasa accepts me just where I am and that I can easily progress or regress the drills for my needs as they change from day to day. I also love sneaking Primal Vinyasa drills into my “typical” yoga practice!”
“Primal Vinyasa has been one of the most important components of my trauma healing process. The inquiry-based practice guides me into my body in no-intimidating ways that allow me to feel, sense, and continually develop safety, stability, and adaptability. The natural human movement combined with sensory awareness and endless creative drills keep the practice enlivening and NEVER boring!”
“Primal Vinyasa is an intuitive style of yoga that is incredibly freeing. The focus on being in tune with your body and moving the way it wants to move within and around these poses. So common sensical yet I’ve spent years in yoga feeling stuck trying to get poses “right.” It has deepened my practice in just a few sessions and I am so grateful to have discovered you!”
“Annie is in inspiring, creative, and an amazing teacher! She empowers others to go beyond heir comfort zone in healthy and unique ways! She is absolutely fantastic and lovely on so many levels. I HIGHLY recommend Annie & Primal Vinyasa.”
